Werner Steam Plant Demolition
Altran was retained by GenOn Energy to provide project controls and site management for the demolition of the Werner Steam Plant in South Amboy, NJ. The Werner Steam Generating Station has experienced a long life since its operations commenced in 1930. Werner was originally built for coal firing but was converted to No. 6 fuel oil firing in 1969. The station includes three steam turbines and four boilers, all of which will be appropriately abated, then demolished. A significant portion of the materials will be salvaged and recycled. The remaining non-salvageable material will be appropriately disposed.
Altran’s personnel are integrated into GenOn’s project team. Services provided include cost and schedule management, management reporting, and oversight of contractors on site. The overall goal of the project is to deliver a significant net present value to GenOn, as compared to maintenance of the property in its existing condition, while eliminating security concerns at the site.
Conemaugh Waste-Water Treatment Plant
Altran provided project controls management to GenOn Energy for the construction of a new waste-water treatment plant at the Conemaugh Generating Station in New Florence, PA. The station is owned by a consortium of power companies made up of Duquesne, NRG, Constellation, Exelon, GenOn, PP&L, PSE&G, and UGI. GenOn operates the station for the consortium owners.
The new WWT systems remove selenium, boron, and other trace elements from the station’s scrubber effluent for compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act. The scrubbers on the two 850-MW units went into service in 1994 and 1995.
Construction and startup of the new WWT systems was completed on schedule by February 1, 2012. Commissioning and training for operation of the new systems continued prior to final turnover of the new facility to operations.
Cheswick Generating Station Spring 2012 Outage
Altran has been retained by GenOn Power Midwest to provide planning and scheduling support for an outage at Cheswick Generating Station. Altran will provide P6 scheduling support to GenOn's internal outage planning department for the outage, which will include boiler reheat tube replacements, generator rotor removal and rewinding, and various balance of plant capital and maintenance work.
The Cheswick Generating Station is a fully scrubbed single-unit, coal-fired generation station located on an 82-acre site in the borough of Springdale, approximately 18 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Cheswick, which began commercial operation in 1970, operates as a baseload facility and has a net demonstrated capacity of 570 megawatts. Since the station’s initial commissioning, additional environmental control systems have been installed to comply with more stringent emission requirements. Emissions controls include the flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) system (scrubber) designed to remove at least 98 percent of the sulfur dioxide from the exhaust, as well as reduce mercury emissions, an electrostatic precipitator and flue gas conditioning systems to remove particulate matter and a low-NOx burner system to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions.
CNNC Nuclear Program
Altran was retained to provide project controls consulting, including CPM schedule development, resource loading and leveling, and implementation of Oracle-Primavera P6v7 for the management of validation and verification engineering services for three nuclear power plants in China.
The plants use an indigenous Chinese pressurized water reactor (PWR) design, the CPR-1000, based on Areva's three-cooling-loop design. The first CPR-1000 reactor, Ling Ao-3 came on line in July 2010. Altran's work relates to the Independent Validation and Verification (IV&V) services for the implementation of Invensys Tricon 1E Controls Systems for the installation of eight new reactors at three plants.
Neptune Regional Transmission System Project
Altran provided CPM scheduling services to the structural steel contractor for the construction of this substation in Sayreville, NJ.
Scheduling issues addressed included structural steel modifications during the course of the project.
